A hidden gem on Chapel Street! Taiko on Chapel really surprised me in the best way. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a quiet solo dinner or a chill catch-up with friends. The hot sake paired with sashimi was my favorite – warm sake with fresh, chilled sashimi creates such a comforting, “Midnight Diner” kind of vibe. The karaage (Japanese fried chicken) was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside – super flavorful without being too salty. Everything was well-balanced and felt thoughtfully prepared. Service was friendly and attentive, and the location is super convenient right on Chapel Street. Highly recommend this place if you're a Japanese food lover – definitely a spot I’ll come back to!

Gluten Free options! Came with my fiance and she’s coeliac so we needed the menu to accommodate. And the staff were super helpful! Lots of options and very yum! Great work team thank you for looking after us.

Fresh sashimi and great unagi don! Oysters were super fresh too. Loved the yuzu miso eggplant — a bit salty but full of flavour. Nice vibe, friendly staff — perfect for a casual dinner in South Yarra.

Absolutely loved my experience at Taiko! The moment you step in, the authentic atmosphere makes you feel like you've been transported to Japan, enhancing the dining experience just like in "The Lonely Gourmet." We ordered a feast including the massive assorted tempura, perfectly chewy takoyaki, and a glorious unagi don with unbeatable teriyaki sauce, all for a total that was surprisingly affordable. The thick cut sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the teriyaki salmon bento was both hearty and delicious. It's the perfect spot for a solo meal, a date, or a quick takeaway. A must visit for any Japanese food lover in Melbourne! Highly recommended!!!

Loved the vibes here!! The interior is so beautiful their prawn toast is really unique so I recommend ordering that! Everything is done really well and super fresh especially the sashimi! Don’t think I had a fav dish cause everything was yum!! I really think it’s a good spot for family gatherings or dates!
